HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

History, Location, Community Situation
Gomburza Elementary School (formerly CAES-1) was in the past an annex
ofCecilioApostol-Main thus the name CAES-Unit 1. It was situated near Victory
Liner in Rizal Avenue, Extension and headed by Mrs. Carmen Tolentino, the
school principal. It was only an old building made of old wooden materials.
Classes were only from Grades I - IV. Some classes were housed at CAES – Main.
Two grade one classes were in at old residential house somewhere in Francisco Street. When classes started to get bigger, the school was relocated on Samson Road. The pupils from Grades I – VI stayed in an old building which was formerly occupied by the Metro Manila Aid employees. Two grade six classes still remained at CAES – Main. It was a two story old dilapidated building. The principal was the former city schools superintendent Dr. Elizabeth T. Manalo. In the year 1985 under the administration of Mrs. Petronilla N. Mariano, the city government built one classroom for a home unit. Then in 1994 the old dilapidated building was demolished. A two story 6 classroom building was constructed through the initiative of Mrs. Aida U. Reyes, who was the principal during that time. The enrolment kept on increasing that on 1998 the second two story nine-classroom building was again constructed through the assistance of Cong. Luis “Baby” Asistio.
From then on the school was headed by the following principals:
Mrs. Elizabeth T. Manalo 1982-1983
Mrs. Petronilla N. Mariano 1984-1989
Mrs. Milagros M. Crispino May-August 1990

Mrs. Adoracion R. Santos 2012-2014
Mrs. Jacqueline V. Luzon July 28, 2014-Aug. 31, 2015
Mrs. Josefina A. Pelayo Sept. 1, 2015 up to May 21, 2018
Dr. Rowena C. Pineda May 22, 2018 up to present
During the time of Mrs. Adoracion S. Baro, an idea came to mind that the
name of the school be changed. This was brought about by parents because
they wanted the school to have its own identity and also to avoid confusion
particularly with regards to mix-up in mails and communication since it has a
similar name with CAES – Main and in which both schools belong to the same
district. So, with the concerted effort of PTA officers, parents, teachers and Mrs.
Baro herself, the name of the school was formally changed by an Ordinance No. 0349 s. 2005. An ordinance changing the official name of CecilioApostol Elem. School Unit – I to Gomburza Elementary School which was approved on July 7, 2005. The school population was one thousand eight hundred thirty-four. Mrs. Jocelyn Navarro started to institutionalize reading interventions in all grade levels in 2012. She also allowed the use of computerized lesson plans in all subjects. In this connection, the performance of the school and its enrolment increased and all the teachers were inspired to come to school daily and on time. On November 10, 2012, the 3rd floor of the school building was burned due to accidental fire from the residential structure adjacent to Gomburza. The school was renovated through Special Education Fund.
